As Indian Independence Day nears, airports in the nation have tightened their security measures for the safety of the passengers. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has enhanced the security at all airports in India, owing to the threat alerts received by the security agencies.
Due to the new enhanced security system, the Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi has requested passengers to report at the airport as early as 4 hours before the scheduled departure for international and domestic flights. Additionally, the ‘Meet and Greet’ area of the airport would be barred from 10th August to 20th August 2019. This indicates that no visitor passes would be issued during this period.
Apart from the Delhi International Airport, the other major cities who have their airport security enhanced include Bangalore and Mumbai. One of the reasons for this alert is the scrapping of Article 370 that was recently implemented in Jammu and Kashmir.
The security would be enhanced inside and outside the airport. These measures include random security checks at the entry point of the terminal buildings by bomb disposal and dog squads, banning of parked vehicles in front of the terminal buildings, and strict access control at terminal buildings administered to ensure the safety of those who enter the airport premises.
The airport authorities request the passengers to cooperate during this high alert period due to Independence Day, and regret for the inconvenience caused.
